Shingle Roof Repair in Huntsville, TX

Roofer replacing damaged asphalt shingles on a Huntsville, TX home

Most shingle problems start small: one lifted tab, a crease from a windy night, a nail that worked loose. Fixed early and fixed properly, they stay small.

Asphalt shingles are the most common roof covering on Huntsville homes, and they fail in predictable ways. Heat bakes the asphalt out of them over the years, thunderstorm winds lift and crease the tabs, and falling pine needles and limbs hold moisture against the surface. A shingle repair is the right answer when the damage is local and the rest of the roof is still doing its job.

Shingle problems we are asked about most

Missing shingles after wind

A bare patch exposes the underlayment, which is not designed to be the final layer. Replace missing shingles quickly, and look at the shingles around the gap too. Wind that took one usually loosened its neighbors.

Cracked, creased or lifted shingles

A horizontal crease across a tab means the shingle bent in the wind and the mat is damaged even if it still looks attached. Lifted tabs with a dirty or dry sealant strip have lost their bond and will flap again in the next storm until they are resealed or replaced.

Curling and cupping

Curled edges are a sign of age, heat or poor attic ventilation. A few curled shingles in a shaded corner can be repaired. Curling across a whole slope is a wear pattern, and patching it is rarely worth the money. See attic ventilation in Texas heat.

Granule loss

Granules protect the asphalt from sunlight. Bald spots, or heavy granules collecting in gutters and at downspouts, point to a shingle surface that is wearing out. Isolated bald spots from a branch can be repaired; widespread loss means the roof is near the end of its life.

Exposed or popped nails

Nails that back out lift the shingle above them and open a path for water. The fix is to remove the nail, seal the hole and replace the shingle if it is damaged, not to hammer it back down.

Water getting in at flashing

When a leak shows up near a chimney, wall or vent, the shingles are often fine and the flashing or pipe boot has failed. Our guide to roof leak repair explains how that gets traced.

How a shingle repair is done

  1. The damaged area and the shingles around it are inspected, including a check of whether they are still flexible enough to lift without cracking.
  2. Damaged shingles are removed, nails are pulled, and any wet or soft decking is replaced before new material goes on.
  3. New shingles are nailed in the correct pattern, sealed and tied into the surrounding courses. Flashing and pipe boots in the area are checked at the same time.
  4. You get the findings and the price in writing before the work starts, and the area is photographed when it is done.

Will new shingles match the old ones?

Shingle lines change and weathered shingles fade, so a repaired area can look a little different even with the closest available product. That is cosmetic. It does not affect whether the repair keeps water out, and your roofer should tell you about it before the work, not after.

What affects the cost of a shingle repair

We do not quote prices without seeing the roof. The main factors are how many shingles are involved, the pitch and height of the roof, whether decking underneath is wet or rotted, how many penetrations need flashing work, and how easy the shingle is to match. Ask for the scope and price in writing so you can compare it with a replacement quote on the same roof.

Shingle repair in Huntsville and nearby neighborhoods

Huntsville homes sit among tall pines and oaks, which drop needles and limbs on roofs year round. Needles packed into valleys hold water and wear shingles faster in those spots, and limbs in a storm can bruise or crack shingles outright. We handle shingle repair across Huntsville, including Elkins Lake, Forest Hills, Ravenwood Village, Westridge and Spring Lake. See pine needles on your roof for how to keep valleys clear.

Frequently asked questions

Can damaged shingles be repaired individually?

Yes, when the surrounding shingles are still flexible and sealed. A roofer lifts the tabs, removes the damaged shingle and nails in a new one. If the neighboring shingles crack when lifted, individual repair stops being practical.

How do I know if shingles are too far gone to repair?

Look for brittleness, curling across whole slopes, bald patches and heavy granules in the gutters. Those are signs the whole surface is wearing out, and an inspection can confirm it.

Is a missing shingle an emergency?

It is urgent but usually not an emergency unless water is coming in. Cover or repair it before the next rain, and if water is already inside, read emergency roof repair.

Does wind damage to shingles count as storm damage?

It can. Wind-creased and missing shingles are common storm claims. Photograph the damage and read what to do after hail or storm damage before you contact your insurer.

Can I repair shingles myself?

Small jobs are possible, but working on a pitched roof is a fall risk, and a poorly sealed repair can leak for months before anyone notices. Have the roof checked by a professional if you are not sure of the cause.

How long does a shingle repair take?

Most single repairs take a few hours once the cause is found. Larger areas, wet decking or several penetrations take longer.
