Spring and fall ground-level checks
- Binocular scan for missing, curled or lifted shingles after windy weeks
- Gutters and downspouts clear, with granule buildup noted, not ignored
- Valleys and low spots free of pine needles and leaves
- Tree limbs trimmed back so they cannot rub or drop on the roof
- Ceiling and attic check for stains, daylight or damp insulation
The small parts that cause big leaks
Most leaks start at details, not in the middle of a shingle field: cracked rubber pipe boots, rusted or lifted flashing, worn sealant at vents and chimneys. Pipe boots in particular have a shorter life than architectural shingles in Texas sun. Catching a cracked boot is a small repair; missing it becomes a ceiling repair too, as our leak causes guide shows.
After a storm, and when to call
From the ground, photograph anything out of place, check for shingles in the yard and dents in gutters, and note the date for insurance purposes. Then decide: small, obvious issues can wait for a scheduled roof repair visit, while active leaks, exposed decking or heavy granule loss deserve a prompt inspection.
